The Client is an Australian freight logistics company, operating in railway freight and shipping. The company embarked on a major project to migrate their core applications and databases to a managed platform private Cloud. This private Cloud service comprised of Oracle Exadata and Exalogic technology platforms.
OBJECTIVES
Fusion Professionals were engaged to provide database platform security solution for their enterprise users to access the databases hosted on their newly deployed private cloud using their existing enterprise directory credentials and permissions.
The assignment included the evaluating users requirements, architecting the right solution, designing the highly available deployment to deploying and transiting the efficient solution in a timely and efficient manner with the least impact to the business. We were able to bring our invaluable experience in Cloud Platforms, Data Management and Solution Architecture key areas to deliver the best outcome to the business.
SOLUTION
After current state review, various products assessments and solution feasibility analysis, Oracle Unified Directory (OUD) product and Enterprise User Security (EUS) features from Oracle Database were used to simplify the authentication and authorisation capabilities by allowing users to leverage user identities stored in existing LDAP-compliant enterprise Active directory service without any additional synchronisation.
Private Cloud users connect to Oracle Database by providing credentials that are stored in existing corporate LDAP-compliant active directory front-ended by Oracle Unified Directory proxy server. The database executes LDAP search operations to query user specific authentication and authorisation information.
Solution reused existing investment in security platform thus reducing the cost and used existing identities stored in Active directory thus reducing business impact.
